When I start a painting, I have an idea in my head of certain colors that I might want to use, or certain moods that I want to evoke. However, the process really is a dialogue between the painting and me. Even though I have no preconceived notions of what I want the end result to look like, the painting eventually evolves into what it is meant to be. The painting dictates what it needs, and I paint to that end. Recently in my nude paintings, I started using myself as a model. This allows me to truthfully connect my experiences and thoughts to my work and at the same time keeps the work more personal and honest to me. As an Indian artist I am drawn to bright colors, and I enjoy using them to capture the viewer's interest. I have been exploring the concept of landscape within the framework of nudes. Everyone has their own individual landscape which is a part of their life experience. I use my work as a visual exploration of my life and to discover what my mental landscape means to me. Instead of using the body for the sole purpose of representing reality, I use it as a means to relate experiences.
